X. WHEN PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT IS REQUIRED
Agents will seek psychological support or psychiatric evaluation in the following situations, as part of their duties or in response to specific incidents they encounter:
- After critical incidents (e.g., shootings, bombings).
- Following exposure to traumatic events during investigations.
- Involved in high-stress operations or undercover missions.
- After experiencing emotional distress due to job-related stress.
- In situations where the agent’s mental well-being is impacted by long-term exposure to distressing environments.
- When making critical decisions under pressure, particularly in life-or-death situations.
- Following an incident where the agent was injured or witnessed the injury of a colleague.
- When there is a noticeable decrease in job performance or behavior that might indicate mental health concerns.
- Post-traumatic stress following an arrest involving significant use of force.
- After any encounter with excessive violence or in high-risk environments.
- When psychological evaluation is recommended after an officer-involved shooting.
- Following any significant personal loss or trauma impacting job performance.
- During routine psychological evaluations as part of departmental wellness programs.
